On the 6th
day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:
SIX swans swimming
in Orlando’s Iconic misspelled lake;
FIVE GOLD STAR
reviewed books:
A history of how a
gift of four acres became a city;
Of Lake Triplet’s
Namesake, 1 lake of 303;
The story of
“Second Lake” – aka - Lake Monroe to thee;
And an autographed

Lake Eola was a
gift to the City of Orlando from Florida’s Cattle-King, Jacob Summerlin. He had
purchased 200 acres that included much of what was at time a watering hole for
his cows. He subdivided his land in 1874, preparing for the arrival of George.
C. Brantley’s train that was to run from Lake Jesup to Orlando by crossing over
Summerlin’s property. Brantley died in 1878, as did the young man’s dream of a railroad.
Summerlin named Lake Eola - #EolaNamesake - on his 1874 survey of the 200
acres.
